About Us

Designed by a mum…

La Bassine was first created for the birth of my daughter in 2004. Having already experienced water birth in hospital I wanted to enjoy the relaxing effect of water in the comfort of my own home. The choice of rented pools available at the time always seemed to me complicated to set up, too long to fill, too heavy and last but not least not really inviting. I could not picture myself giving birth in those pools. A friend working within the inflatable industry helped me then to design and create my own special coccon for labour and birth. The midwives present at the birth were so enthusiastic about what my little boys named ‘La Bassine’ that they encouraged us to make it available to other mums-to-be. In June 2005 La Bassine was officially launched in the UK and rapidly acclaimed by the birth professionals and more importantly by the parents themselves. More recently I used La Bassine again for the wonderful home water birth of my forth child in September 2005.” Carine Pouypoudat – co-founder of Made in Water

Carbon Balance

2009 – La Bassine Carbon Balanced

Made in Water carbon balanced 22.48 tonnes of carbon dioxide to offset the electricity used in production and sea freight shipment of Made In Water pools for 12 months from 1st April 2009. The Carbon Balanced Fund is used to acquire land and undertake restoration projects working through local partner organisations. Details of all our current projects as well as recent news can be found on our websites: www.worldlandtrust.org and www.carbonbalanced.org. Through the generous support of individuals and organisations the World Land Trust has been instrumental in the purchase and protection of nearly 400,000 acres of tropical forest and other threatened habitats which would otherwise have been lost. Made in Water has offset the emissions of carbon dioxide associated with the electricity used in the production of Made in Water birth pools, and their sea freight shipment, through the World Land Trust Carbon Balanced programme. These funds will be invested in World Land Trust Restoration Ecology Projects which deliver offsets through the restoration and protection of threatened tropical forests. These projects are designed to benefit biodiversity conservation and are managed in collaboration with local non-governmental organisations.
